The first draft is foreplay, if you will, and the revision is when you consummate the relationship with the work. The good writer--lover of words and characters--lasts longest and satisfies every word, comma, period, exclamation point. The climax is a story in which people can see themselves. The most loving relationship I've ever had has been with those words on those pages.
